Safety is achieved through use of a double mechanical dynamic shaft seal located between bearings for minimum possible shaft run-out, with a pressurized barrier fluid system, and O-ring type static seals where components are joined. Reliability is provided by slow speed operation and low differential pressures, which maximize bearing and seal life. And efficiency is inherent in the PD Internal Gear pumping principle, compared to centrifugal pumps. Viking pumps can usually use at least one motor size smaller than these technologies.</p>

The smaller sizes “C”, “F” and “FH” are constructed for heavier duty service. Mechanical seal equipped <strong>General Purpose pump models</strong> in sizes from “C” thru “HL” shown in this section are available with Underwriters label for handling fuel oil. Model numbers for these pumps must be designated by a suffix -X. “UL” listed models can be equipped with integral relief valve. The additional sizes of unmounted <strong>General Purpose pumps</strong> are illustrated on the following page. Also for continuous service and for handling viscous liquids, see Viking’s line of heavy duty pumps, Section 630. Viking’s unique and unusually simple pump construction makes it adaptable to many diversified installations.</p>
<p>The <strong>Viking General Purpose Series 32 pumps</strong> possess excellent vacuum characteristics and will operate and prime at suction lifts up to 25 feet, depending upon the vaporization point of volatile liquids. Because of the cushioned action in providing a continuous and steady stream of liquid without splashing, pounding, foaming or churning, the Viking pump is adaptable to an unlimited number of industrial applications.</p>
<p>All sizes of<strong> Viking General Purpose pumps</strong> have tapped ports except “LQ”, “LL”, “Q”, “M” and “N” sizes. These have flanged ports ready to accept companion flanges. “K” through “N” sizes are furnished with conventional packing as standard. A cartridge style triple lip sealing option is available for the “K” through “N” sizes, contact the factory for details. A supporting anti-friction bearing pillow block is recommended for the end of the pump shaft on all V-belt driven units.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <strong>GEN fire-fighting booster set </strong>is an extensive range of EN 12845 fire-fighting booster sets comprising models with 1 or 2 service pumps powered by electric motors or diesel engines. The range can also be supplied with a pilot pump for pressurising the fire-fighting system.</p>
<p>The <strong>GEN fire-fighting booster sets</strong> are built in conformity with EN12845 for automatic sprinkler systems and with UNI10779 for hydrant systems. In accordance with the above standards, all the main components of the booster set are factory connected and assembled. The configuration of the booster set depends on the number of pumps installed and on the type of electric motor or diesel engine, consistently with the type of supply chosen for the fire-fighting system from among those described in the standard.</p>
<p>The water supply can be single, superior, duplicated or combined. Two main service pumps, one backing up the other, are normally installed for fire-fighting systems. The choice of electric motors or diesel engines depends on the level of reliability required from the system.</p>
<p>In practice, the <strong>GEN fire-fighting booster sets</strong> have one electric service pump and one diesel service pump. Point 10.2 of EN 12845 states that for superior or duplicate water supplies, and if more than one pump is installed, no more than one service pump can be driven by the electric motor. This concept means that mixed assemblies, comprising electric or diesel pumps, have to be installed. This does not mean that it is not possible to have two electric pumps, one backing up the other, if the ascertained fire risk is low (single supplies) or if a diesel generator is already incorporated in the system.</p>
